21 : JAEGER !!!!

AoT’s main character is Eren JAEGER, and his name is clearly heard in the japanese opening. EFT’s most annoying trader is named JAEGER. There is clearly a good pun to be made here, and that’s why this scene exists.

In this scene, the character emerges from a bush with a Jar of mayonnaise and a propital injector. This is a reference to the “The Survivalist Path - Zhivchik” quest, in which Jager requires the player to survive being dehydrated for five minutes. The easiest way to complete it is to drink a Maro jar to become instantly dehydrated, and then take a shot of propital to progressively heal the dehydration damage. Sitting in a bush is not mandatory, but it avoids getting killed by other players.

The bush is a blenderkit model. A sun was used as a main light source, and an emissive mesh as a secondary light source. The background is a screenshot, made to be similar to the previous shot. It is placed far away so that it would be blurred by the camera’s depth of field.

The grass are textures from the game imported as mesh planes. They are placed on the ground with a scatter on surface modifier. The ground is a mesh plane with a grass texture.

Important

When using lots of transparent objects with Cycles, which might be the case when building is scene with grass, light rays going through multiple transparent objects will be absorbed after a set number of interactions. This results in meshes appearing black instead of transparent. To fix this, go to Render/Light paths/Max bounces/Transparent and increase the default value. This can increase the render time.

Jaeger is imported as a mesh plane and his opacity is animated, in order to made him appear as a benevolent god watching over the PMC in his very serious and extremely important mission. Unfortunately, he is not very visible in the final shot.

The PMC’s head was sculpted with the grab bruch to give him a facial expression. To synchronize the animation with the song, a speaker object is placed with the scene. The result is quite funny, despite the scene being so short.
