19-20 : The raid
2 minutes read
In the original opening, this is a long, beautifully animated scene of the main characters flying through the air with their ODM gear. I had no idea how to do that, so I kept pushing it back to get more experience with the other scenes.
I don’t think I could have done something as dynamic as the original scene. I had three options :
- Port a map from the game to allow for dynamic movement and develop insane animation skills ;
- Setup a multiplayer server, recruit actors and record in-game footage with the freecam mod ;
- Record in-game footage alone with the freecam mod.
At this point I had spent at more than two months on the project and I was tired and lazy, so I simply used in-game footage with a single character on each shot. I could not make a single scene like in the original, so I cut it up in multiple shots (and this messed my numbering system up, again).
I still tried to make it visually interesting with the weather changer mod. For example, a sunset in foggy weather gives interesting colors. I also used the blind firing mechanic, which is rarely used in-game.

Just like any other in-game screenshot or video, it is zoomed in 1.1x to crop out the EFT version displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. I don’t know if it is possible to disable it.
